Cultural Captivity

Connie K. Thompson’s discourse on Cultural Captivity© encourages listeners to “free yourself to be yourself.”  Connie teaches that in every society, there are rules and expectations that we are trained to observe.  Unfortunately, these rules and expectations may not be in our best interest. There are agendasfrom our families, our communities and our government handed down from one generation to the next with little consideration for changing social mores or different personality types.Connie helps attendees examine the most common methods used by others to coerce them to bend to their will and how to create their own personal agenda for a happier life with detailed suggestions for getting others to support a “new and improved” life plan.

Personal Relationships/People Proficiency

Life can be burdensome when you are struggling with negative emotions that drag you down.  Connie gives audiences the tools to train your brain to stop doing those actions that cause you to feel angry, resentful, ashamed, depressed, worried or hopeless.  Breaking free requires determining what others want from you emotionally, financially, mentally, and physically, and exploring what you are willing to give to others.  With help from Connie K. Thompson, be prepared to enjoy a freedom of spirit unlike anything you’ve known. It’s time to Unlock Your Sanity© and start living your life.

“Connie Thompson’s advice on the similarities of men
and horses is funny and profound.”
– Steve Harrison, Founder of the Million Dollar Author Club

Founder of Linchpin Booksellers, Connie is the author of the Angus Series of fiction novels and creator of the 6-Pack Series for Success books, addressing self-help tactics for multiple subjects of personal development.  Connie writes numerous blogs, including the popular “6 Easy Steps to Get Ahead Financially” and “Remedies for a Broken Country,” which pokes fun at the existing economy and U.S. political structure while offering insightful solutions to implement should she be voted Queen.

When Thompson was a youth, she learned her most important lesson from her Father.  “He told me that other people’s actions really have nothing to do with me.  Their actions support their own view of reality and I happen to be an incidental.  So, don’t take anything anyone says or does personally, it’s all about them.”  Connie has perfected the strategy of turning this truism into a reality.

Today Thompson lives in Westcliffe with her husband of 20 years and is dedicated to helping people overcome the negative emotions and influences in their lives.

Who better to learn the business of writing from, than a two-time bestselling author, relationship expert, college English teacher, and eternal humorist?

A note from Connie –

There are three rules for writing a novel.

Unfortunately no one knows what they are.

  1. Somerset Maugham

Writing is perhaps one of the most revealing exercises a human can do.  The writer exposes their ideas on the human race, on politics, on our possible future on Earth, on heartbreak, on the funnier side of life, on… well, everything, only to be judged not only on their beliefs, but also on their writing style, content and presentation. And few things are as devastating as getting a letter from an editor who doesn’t think your work is up to par, a book signing where no one comes, or a book editorial that dissects your work like sushi.

Being a writer will put hair on your chest that you never knew you wanted. It will eventually force you to examine your reasons for writing at all, including why you are trying to tell others what you think.  Whether you are writing science fiction, memoirs, or how-to books, there are two and only two things that you really need to keep in mind:

  1. 1. Be interesting.

Let’s be honest. If your work isn’t interesting, no one will read it beyond the first page or two. Therefore, you have wasted your time writing the rest of the book, short story, biography, historical novel, sci-fi favorite, or anything else. When you write, more often than not you are writing to be read. Even graffiti writers know this. Therefore, keep it interesting. And deciding whether your work is interesting or not is done by readers, not by you.

  1. 2. Get your butt in the chair.
  2. Talking about writing is not writing – it’s hot air. It takes ten fingers, hundreds of pens, and a ton of paper to become a writer. Start now. There’s no better time.

I have written several books, numerous blogs, college papers, a master’s thesis, and technical manuals and when I get swamped by the “rules” of writing, I stop and refer back to the above basics.
